Dear :

We are writing to enlist your support in memorializing Camp Cornplanter and its founder and first camp director, Annabelle Bollinger. Camp Cornplanter, founded in 1959 was the nation’s first summer residential camp for children and adults with mental challenges. Mrs. Bollinger’s pioneering efforts insured that children and adults from the East Coast and Canada had a unique wilderness camping experience.

In her memory, The Friends of Camp Cornplanter have established the Annabelle Bollinger Memorial Scholarship, hosted by the Community Foundation of Warren County. The scholarship will annually provide at least $500 to a college student majoring in special education or a related major. Preference will be given to students residing in one of the original counties that sponsored and supported the operation of Camp. (Alleghany Co., NY; Cattaraugus Co., NY; Chautauqua Co.,NY; Erie Co., NY; Warren Co, PA; Lawrence Co., PA; McKean Co.; PA; Mercer Co., PA; Elk Co, PA) A scholarship review committee will be established to work with the Community Foundation to choose the award winner.

We are asking you to support the Scholarship Fund by making a generous donation. The memories we collectively share of Camp Cornplanter and Mrs. B will be memorialized each year when scholarship monies are provided to train future counselors and teachers. Hopefully, the winner will continue Mrs. B legacy by providing a bright and challenging future for individuals with mental challenges.

Please send your donation to the Community Foundation of Warren County, Post Office, Box 691, Warren, Pennsylvania 16365.

Please list in the memo section of your check: Annabelle Bollinger Scholarship Fund.

Your donation is tax deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.

Sincerely,

Friends of Camp Cornplanter
